No matter how old you are it’s good to have a best friend you can count on.
In what you would call an unlikely duo Harley Bruiser, a 10-year-old Bulldog, and Buckeye, a 15-year-old Golden Retriever, are each dealing with a diagnosis that’s very difficult to handle.
Not long ago both dogs were only given 4 to 6 months to live. But they have each other and they have loving families too.
Harley was recently diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma and Buckeye with Cholangiocellular Carcinoma, according to WTOV9 News.
The dynamic duo first met after receiving their terrible news. Instantly, they formed a bond that couldn’t be broken.
With help from their affectionate owners Harley and Buckeye are turning the next few months into a non-stop festivity of life.
One by one they’re crossing memorable moments from their bucket lists together.
So far, they’ve enjoyed a shopping spree at a cozy doggie boutique eating plenty of treats while getting tons of hugs and kisses. They have a lot more planned for the next few months said one owner.
“I think it’s really important to try to keep giving your pet the best quality of life till the very end,” Grace Kemp, Buckeye’s owner and a veterinarian, told WTOV9.
Right from the start, Kemp and her family have been there for Buckeye. They adopted Buckeye from a rescue shelter when he was young.
And like most dog lovers do they raised him as a loving member of their family.
His mom works at Goodworks Veterinary Hospital in Ohio. Buckeye, a Golden Retriever, often accompanies her to work helping her show what quality senior pet care can do for a pet’s physical and emotional health.
Harley, a Bulldog, is sadly nearing the end of his time left on earth. He hasn’t wasted a second the past few months though. His family is spoiling him more than ever.
It’s the least they can do since Harley spoiled them with tons of unconditional love since he became a family member.
“He’s got to ride in the back of our vehicles with us into town, skateboard down the road, I mean, anything a dog could ever want to do,” his owner, Ashley McElfresh told WTOV9.
McElfresh has kept track of all of Harley’s wonderful bucket list moments through the Facebook group “Bucket List Adventures of Harley Bruiser.”
Some of his most recent adventures have included making art, a sunset drive, and riding on a real Harley Davidson motorcycle. Very fitting for an remarkable dog named Harley.
Very often you can find Buckeye making guest appearances on his best buddy’s Facebook page. They’re helping each other make their dreams come true.
After all, soon they will both have to say goodbye to their families before crossing over the rainbow bridge. Once on the other side they can keep having fun together. That’s what best friends do… right?
